Exploring the Berkeley Marina & Pier

We've spent a lot of time over the years exploring parks and open spaces around the Bay Area, but found one that we have never ventured to before.

We originally planned to spend the day at the Adventure Playground near the marina, but since it was closed for the Holidays, we set off on an amazing hike around the Berkeley Marina & Pier.

We worked our way around the shoreline, and marched all the way to the end of the long pier, which took us deep into the Bay. From the end of the pier, we had perfect views of the Berkeley Hills, the Oakland Waterfront, the Bay Bridge, Treasure Island, downtown San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marin Headlands, Angel Island, Mount Tam and the Richmond Bridge. How 'bout that!!!

Here are some pics of the walk:

Still Strolling through the Garden

It had been awhile, but we've had fun working down at the garden the last two Saturdays.  We're taking our time sifting through the lower beds, and enjoying the search for buried goodies.

Grapes at the Garden

This picture was taking a few weeks ago, and now there are a ton of grapes for picking at the CACG.

Check them out near the parking lot at the east side of the garden.

Planting Day Part II

It was another beautiful day at the CACG on Saturday. More seeds were planted (thanks Jenn, Colin, Brenna and Karen for planting carrots, pumpkins, and lettuce) and more wood chips spread around various locations (thanks Garden Mike and Randy, who was back for his second week in a row)!

David once again tested and fixed up some of the irrigation lines. Thanks for your expertise David!!!!

One of the Garden's Best Days

It was a great day at the CACG on May 3rd, as we head towards a season of planting and new growth.

We had numerous visitors and volunteers through out the day, and it was so fun to see new faces and 'regulars' working together, sharing ideas, and enjoying all that the garden has to offer.

We're planning some new projects and events at the garden as we head towards the summer, and I'll try to keep the blog up to date!

Here are some pics from Saturday, where  we cleaned up the lower beds, planted beans, radish, tomatoes, eggplant, chard, beets, and sunflowers.

David and Garden Mike worked on the irrigation system as we continue to monitor the water usage.

This is Sophia, who came to the garden with Jenn, mike, and her two little brothers.

She was a great help planting new seeds in the bed above, and spreading hay around the planted areas.

She stood there, passing in and out of the green sunflowers that are growing tall, and said, "it is so fun, being here with all this stuff...."

I agree, Sophia!!

The Sequoia Elementary Daisy Girl Scout Troop helps at the Garden

Brenna's Girl Scout troop spent Saturday morning at the Center Avenue Community garden, and had a great time exploring, planting some vegetables, reading gardening books, and working on some water color painting.

Here are some pics of the day!
