There was a great turnout at the CACG's second Crop Swap, and it looks like word is spreading about this wonderful event in the community.
Thanks Jenn, Mike, David, and everyone else who helped organize and share their produce.
Here's a list that Jenn put together of items that were shared: 3 kinds of zucchini, 5 kinds of squash, various tomatoes, plums, pears, eggs, grapes, peppers, apples, chard, seeds, succulents, cacti and herbs.
Looking forward to the next one!

Great Turnout for Saturday Workday
It was a very productive day at the CACG last Saturday, as three new families stopped by to explore, plant, and harvest a wide variety of fruits and vegetable. Among the items we're harvesting right now are grapes, strawberries, green beans, corn, zucchini, squash, cherry tomatoes, turnips, beets, and herbs.
Tammy and her mom came by for a couple of hours and helped spread wood chips, as well as save a supply of red leaf lettuce seed (a patient job!).
Regulars Bob and Ben were also there, helping tidy up around the garden, and providing their usual lively conversations!
Thanks to everyone who stopped by - come back anytime!
The pictures below are a surprising find I made in one of the garden beds on Saturday. As I trimmed back a few branches of the purple tree in the picture (anyone know the name?), I was startled by a huge squash that was growing in it, like a Christmas ornament. The squash's vine had made its way into the tree and over the top. Very cool!

Workday at the CACG this Saturday, July 13th!
As the garden continues to grow, we can really use some help keeping things tidy!
We're planning to spend a couple of hours at the CACG this coming Saturday helping out with some simple things like:
- spreading wood chips around various locations
- cleaning up around the exterior of the garden
- organizing the garden shed
- labeling vegetables in the raised beds (painted stakes are located in the shed).
Nothing too strenuous or technical, but we can sure use a few more hands on deck!
Feel free to stop by between 10am and Noon, and pitch in!
Thanks!
Jim and Karen

Harvesting on Fourth of July Weekend
With Auntie Tina in town from San Diego, we spent some time exploring around the CACG. Some of the summer fruits and vegetables are ready to be harvested, including the grapes near the parking lot entrance.
Sweet-tasting grapes are looking great along the white archway. |
There are a few strawberries scattered around a garden bed. |
Sunflowers basking in the Fourth of July sunset. |
Here's Colin trying a grape. |
Brenna, Karen, and Tina harvesting corn. |
Here's the corn that Doug planted a few months back. |
A perfect example of the corn and beans working together - the corn grows tall, and the bean wraps itself around the corn. |

Pictures from the Garden's First Crop Swap
David and Karen snapped some photos at the CACG's first-ever Crop Swap, and event we're hoping takes place the last Thursday of every month moving forward.
It's amazing how much food can be shared when a few people stop by!
