Great Turnout for Saturday Workday

It was a very productive day at the CACG last Saturday, as three new families stopped by to explore, plant, and harvest a wide variety of fruits and vegetable.  Among the items we're harvesting right now are grapes, strawberries, green beans, corn, zucchini, squash, cherry tomatoes, turnips, beets, and herbs.

Tammy and her mom came by for a couple of hours and helped spread wood chips, as well as save a supply of red leaf lettuce seed (a patient job!).

Regulars Bob and Ben were also there, helping tidy up around the garden, and providing their usual lively conversations!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by - come back anytime!

The pictures below are a surprising find I made in one of the garden beds on Saturday.  As I trimmed back a few branches of the purple tree in the picture (anyone know the name?), I was startled by a huge squash that was growing in it, like a Christmas ornament. The squash's vine had made its way into the tree and over the top.  Very cool!

Can you spot the squash and vine in the picture?
